AP Literature : AP Lit Book Clubs

Learning Targets

  • Students will find textual evidence from their book club books that supports the AP Literature standards.
  • Students will create deep, meaningful discussion questions based on their passages and AP Literature standards.
  • Students will engage in meaningful discussion with their group members to gain a deeper knowledge of their book.

AP Lit Book Clubs Timeline

January 6th: Book Talks, Book Club Creation, Set Page Reading Goals
  • Mrs. Neneman, Mrs. Engel and Mr. Hume will book talk the titles that you will have to chose from.  The presentation can be accessed HERE

 

  • To submit your first, second and third choice, access the form HERE
  • Create norms for your book club.  Suggested norms can be accessed HERE.
  • Your book club will meet during class on January 22nd, February 7th and February 21st.  Decide how many pages book club members should have read by each of these meeting dates, for example:

          -By January 29th, every member should have read to page _____?

          -By February 12th, every member should have read to page_____?

          -By March 5th, every member should have finished the book.

  • Guiding a discussion during Book Club Meetings: Complete the document PRIOR to meeting with your group.  The topics that book club members should be prepared to discuss are described on the document found HERE.
    • Move this document to a safe folder in your Google Drive!
  • An exemplar of a Book Club Discussion sheet completed well can be found HERE.
  • Exchange contact information with fellow book club members so you can contact each other regarding book club info, absences, etc.
 January 29th: 1st Book Club Meeting 
  •  Hold Book Club Discussions on first agreed upon third of the book.
  • Reflect on the performance of your book club using the Book Club Performance Review Guidelines.  Guidelines can be found HERE.
 
February 12th: 2nd Book Club Meeting 
  • Hold Book Club Discussions on second-third of the book.
  • Reflect on the performance of your book club using the Book Club Performance Review Guidelines.  Guidelines can be found HERE.
March 5th: 3rd Book Club Meeting 
  • Hold Book Club Discussions on last of the book.
  • Reflect on the performance of your book club using the Book Club Performance Review Guidelines.  Guidelines can be found HERE.
