Globalization Final - Modern World History: 3. Refugee Journey

Project Overview

You will choose one refugee crisis to explore and research. Based on your research, you will create a Google Tour that details the journey a refugee takes when fleeing their home country.

**Refugee Crises you can choose from: Syrian Civil War, Somali Civil War, Sudanese Civil War, Vietnam War, Rohingya Crisis in Myanmar, Russia-Ukraine crisis, Rwandan genocide, Venezuelan crisis, Partition of India, Afghanistan War, Central/South American migrant train, Haiti, Cambodian Killing Fields, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Yugoslavian Wars of 1990s, Uyghur Crisis

If you have another refugee crisis you would like to explore that is not on the above list, you must get approval from your teacher.

Project Dates

Your final has two parts:

  • Part 1: Research, due end of day Friday, 5/16 (submit Google Doc to Canvas)
  • Part 2: Final product, due end of day Sunday, 5/18 (submit project link to Canvas)
    • Assignment will close at end of day Tuesday, 5/20

If you use your time wisely in class, you have plenty of time to do the required tasks.

**Due dates are the same for every Modern World History class!**

Part I: Research

You MUST use the databases listed below to find your research!

Part II: Final Product

You will create a Google Earth tour that documents a refugee's journey from start to finish, providing relevant details about the journey. If you have done a good job on your notes page, you should be able to copy/paste the information over to your tour.

Your journey must include:

  • At least five stops with relevant photo(s) for each stop
  • Reason why refugees are fleeing their home country
  • At least one country through which refugees have fled
  • At least one country to which refugees have resettled
  • At least one social and/or political reaction towards refugees in their new host country
  • At least one way refugees integrate into their new country after arrival
  • Any other relevant information to the refugee's journey that isn't listed above
