We hope everyone had a good week! ☀️

We continue to work on the library data project, and we would love for every library to submit a sample library schedule - the document you use to schedule classes in the library. We do not care about the format - photo, link, etc. It does not need to be a calendar/schedule that is filled out.   Click here to send the form.  Thank you!

Interloan Update

The situation has come up a couple of times where a book was returned to the owning school without first being checked-in and marked "returned" at the requesting school. In those cases, the temporary loan at the requesting school remained on the student's record.

Going forward, if this happens again, the student's loan will be automatically checked-in, in addition to the Interloan request being marked "Complete" at both schools.

As Cristy and I meet with Accessit and they continue to adjust their Interloan process, we realize that they did not anticipate our healthy use of Interloans initially.  Many districts they serve do not Interloan materials at the same volume.  We appreciate your patience as they improve the process. It is still not perfect, but I appreciate how we are able to make it work.

Book Ref # and ISBN Project

Thank you for taking on this project.  Please see the links below for resources.  The FAQ document contains common questions I am receiving from librarians.  If you have any trouble or have questions, please reach out via a BV Care ticket.

Summer Reading

Please let me know if you plan to have summer library hours in June or July.  Email me the dates and I will make sure Accessit is ready to go.

End of Year Updates

The EOY year checklist will be sent out soon with updated steps for billing 5th and 8th graders.  High School just received the email and checklist for 12th-grade students.

Due Date for All Students: May 12th*
This due date does not apply to 12th-grade students and staff.

Students can continue to check out books after this date.

If you need to adjust a due date for a student or staff member who wants to check out a book during the summer, you can adjust the due date. Click here for directions.

AI with a Google Search

When students search Google, the top results are AI-based.  Typically, it contains text with a small link icon to a source.

The answers at the top are driven by many things, including user engagement of the source (most likely social media) and commerce.

Students will find the link will take them to a blocked page - usually, the source is a site blocked by the filter - Reddit or Cosmopolitan, for example.

IT is aware of the issue and is unable to restrict so that only “unblocked” sites appear.  This is not an issue reserved for BV only - all districts with our filtering software are finding this an issue.  This will evolve over time, so hopefully blocked sites will be removed as results.

Encourage students to scroll below the AI results to show available sites that work in the district. There is also an additional step to click Web to view only web page results.

This is another opportunity to point out your library webpage and access to quality, credible database resources.
