Exploring Cultures Independent Reading Project (10th grade): Home
Find a novel about a character that is different from you.
More specifically, the novel should explore an aspect of culture
different from your own
in terms of
race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or socioeconomic status
You are encouraged to find a novel that explores a culture you know little about, do not understand, or believe yourself to be biased against--though that is not necessary.
The important thing is to explore a difference.
These Harvard University surveys are meant to help us identify our UNCONSCIOUS biases. No one needs to know your results, but sometimes it's good to know what's going on in that brain that you don't even realize!
Which book genre are you?
This fun online quiz is meant to give you ideas about the TYPE of book you may enjoy reading. This is especially useful for those of you who do not consider yourselves "readers."
Search by tags! Many of BVSW books have been tagged by keywords or themes.
Search these lists with the tag "Diversity" - you can also type in a specific search to streamline your results.
Search the Johnson County catalog if we do not have the book you need.
