Exploring Cultures Independent Reading Project (HELA10): Home
Find a novel about a character that is different from you.
More specifically, the novel should explore an aspect of culture different from your own in terms of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or socioeconomic status. You may also choose a book about someone who is differently-abled than you.
You are encouraged to find a novel that explores a culture you know little about, do not understand, or believe yourself to be biased against--though that is not necessary.
These Harvard University surveys are meant to help us identify our UNCONSCIOUS biases. No one needs to know your results, but sometimes it's good to know what's going on in that brain that you don't even realize!
