Book Trailers: Getting started

Getting Started

MOST OF THE HARD WORK IS IN THIS STEP SO TAKE YOUR TIME TO WORK OUT WHAT IS IMPORTANT

Watch some examples to determine what constitutes a good book trailer.  Which ones make you want to read the book?  Why?  Which ones are least effective?  Why?

Storyboard your ideas out. Since you only have a couple of minutes to work with, think carefully about the length of time each image or section of video or animation uses.  Don't forget to include information about the book!  Title, Author, Copyright, # of pages

Consider Images--Voice--Music--Pacing

The first thing you want to consider is how to convey the idea of your book, and get people excited about it - excited enough to want to read it!

Think about good movie trailers, since most people are more familiar with those. What made you want to go see the movie? Did the intensity build as the trailer progressed? Did the music quicken, or become foreboding?

Make sure you have a good "hook" to captivate your audience from the very beginning.  Grab their attention!

What are the 5 most important things about the plot, setting, or "feeling" you want your viewer to know?  Make sure you keep a balance between telling enough to interest the viewer but not so much that you give too much away.  Leave your viewer wanting to know more!

You do not want to have too much text!

Create a folder on your desktop called ‘Book Trailer’.

List 5 points about the plot, setting or ‘feel’ of the book that you think are the most important things to show/tell the viewer.

Save this document into your Book Trailer folder.Think HOW you could get these ideas across – what image/sound effect/music would capture that point in the best way? Add these thoughts to your doc.

If you use GoogleDocs (accessible from your student email acct.), you can work collaboratively and simultaneously share ideas. One person creates the doc and invites the others in the grp to participate.  See Mrs. Nocita for help with this if you need assistance.
