Step Four: Microsoft Movie Maker

Ahh...the fun begins! You are now ready to make a movie. Read the Movie Maker Directions document to get started. You can find Movie Maker from the start menu of your computer.

If you need specific directions, ask for assistance!  Many of your classmates have had MovieMaker experience!

SAVE your Movie Maker frequently. The program has a tendency to freeze.

Saving Your PSA as a movie in MovieMaker

Saving Your Final Project:

1.Save your project.  If you need to make any changes to your movie, you must use the project file. You cannot edit a finalized movie so it's a good idea to keep the project file until you are sure that the final grade is in the books!

2.  In Movie Maker choose "Finish Movie" under movie tasks and select "save to my computer".

3. Enter your last name only for your file name.

4. "Browse" and look for the folder you want it saved. (Most likely a folder labeled PSA in your CA folder.)

5. Click "next" when prompted.

6. Click "next" again when prompted.

7. Wait for your movie to save and click "finish".

8. Watch your movie. If you are satisfied with your product, you will save it into your teacher's drop box.

9. From Windows Media Player, choose "file" and "save as".

10. Title the file name with your last name only.

11. Save to the resource folder > teachers > and select your teacher > inbox > find your CA hour and save.

You will be working with audio, video, and image files in this project.

Supported File Types for MovieMaker Live

There is a difference between a project file and a finished movie.  Finished movies cannot be edited. Make sure that you save your project file as you go and that you convert it to a "movie" when you are ready to turn it in.  You will want to keep your project file too, in case you need to go back and make revisions.

How to recognize a Movie Maker project file:

.wlmp

Editing video is not a quick process. It can require a lot of time and planning, and it will probably require more than one sitting to complete. Be sure to leave yourself as much time as possible for the task, and don't wait until the last minute. (don't say we didn't warn you!)

PowerPoint ppt to jpg

If you have created your presentation in PowerPoint, you will need to save your PowerPoint presentation as .jpg rather than as .ppt

This changes the presentation slides to images that you can then upload to MovieMaker or Animoto.  First save your presentation as you regularly would into your PSA folder.  Then save again but this time select save as, then change "save as type": JPEG file interchange format

It will ask if you want to change every slide, say yes.  It will save them in a new folder.  It is important to keep the original .ppt presentation so you can go back and make corrections if you find mistakes.  You cannot correct a .jpg

I found a mistake on a PowerPoint slide!

If you find a mistake on a PowerPoint, you will have to go back and make the correction in the ppt presentation. You will need to save the "current slide" only as a jpeg file instead of saving your entire PowerPoint again. You may want to name that slide something unique to make it easier to find in your folder.  Then upload the newly corrected slide into MovieMaker.
