Course Description

Earth Space Science offers students a look at the natural processes that occur on Earth and in the surrounding universe. Students will gain an understanding of the processes and interdependence of the earth’s systems and its relationship to other objects in space. Topics encompassing geology, astronomy and meteorology are explored including atmospheric structure, tornadoes and hurricanes, formation of the universe, stars, galaxies and our solar system as well as the laws of planetary motion, the internal and external processes that shape the surface and the interior of the Earth (mineral formation, rock cycle, plate tectonics, mountain building, geologic time). Students will also explore the impact of humans on the natural environment. This course satisfies the graduation requirement for one unit of Physical Science.
