1984 Cover Redesign - AP Lang: Home

2024 marked the 75th anniversary of the classic dystopian novel, 1984. To celebrate this and show your understanding of the novel, you will redesign the cover of the book. You will need to be innovative, creative, and mindful of the themes in the book as part of your submission will be a written reflection outlining reasons behind design elements using at least one specific quote from the novel.

Submission Requirements:

1. Students must submit a new front cover design for Orwell’s 1984 (only the front cover).
2. The cover design can be hand-drawn on letter size paper 8.5 inches wide by x 11 inches high or created digitally in the same proportions. 
3. All book covers must be the original design of the student. Using AI to design a full cover is NOT acceptable. Students may use Canva's Magic Media to create small elements to be used on the book cover, but this should not be used to generate the full cover.
4. All designs must include the title and author’s name.

Each submission must include a brief text (150-300 words max.) outlining the key elements of the design and the reasoning behind their inclusion citing specific quotes from the text as reference (minimum of one quote).

A hard copy of your book cover is due on the day of your final.
