The Disenfranchised and their Path to Equality: Home

The purpose of this guide is to help you recognize milestones in different populations' efforts to gain rights within American culture.

The Disenfranchised - Seeking Rights in America

Your Task

You will be assigned a group of people who have at some point in time been disenfranchised (denied basic rights and privileges) of regular citizens in the United States.  Your group may be a sub-group of one of the 9 larger groups named in the project directions.  i.e. You make work on "Japanese Citizens" as a subgroup of Asian Americans.

You will research important events and the time that they happened in the efforts by that group to earn the privileges of full citizenship.  Once your research is complete, you will create a interactive map using one of two available tools and a short video highlighting the efforts of that group of citizens.

Opposing Viewpoints BVSW - Use this resource to find magazine, newspaper, and journal articles about controversial topics.

Issues and Controversies BVSW - Explores hundreds of hot topics in politics, government, business, society, education, and popular culture. Presented in a balanced, pro/con format, each article presents the key facts, arguments, history, and current context.

Global Issues BVSW - Search thousands of publications to find up to date research about issues around the world.

Gale eBooks - BVSW - Nonfiction eBooks purchased by BVSW and available for student use. These often replace the books on the shelves that you may want/need for research. This used to be called GVRL.

 

Noodletools

Use NoodleTools to construct a bibliography of sources for your project.
