Amazing Middle Ages: Task 15

Task 16 “Medieval Medical Mystery” – Create a Patient Case File

📋 Project Steps:

  1. Choose a Medieval Illness or Condition to research:

    • The Black Death (plague)

    • Bubonic Plague

    • The Dancing Plague of 1518

    • "Sweating Sickness"

    • Humors imbalance (too much blood, yellow bile, etc.)

    • Leprosy

    • Dysentery

    •  Malaria

    • Typhoid

    • Smallpox

    • St Anthony’s Fire

    • Toothache, broken bone, or other injuries and wounds

    • Scurvy

  2. Create a “Patient Profile” Page:

    • Name, age, occupation

    • Symptoms they’re experiencing

    • How they got sick or injured (based on medieval knowledge)

    • Which medieval healer they’re visiting (monk, barber-surgeon, wise woman, etc.) *different classes would have received different medical assistance.

  3. Diagnosis & Treatment Plan:

    • What the medieval healer believes is wrong (e.g., “an imbalance of the black bile”)

    • Suggested treatments (bloodletting, leeches, herbal remedies, prayers, charms, surgery, etc.)

    • Include some real (and bizarre!) treatments for fun

📦 Deliverable:

A creative patient file folder, poster, or journal page
