DEBATE RESEARCH

DIRECTIONS: Once your topic is chosen, begin researching both sides of your topic. Use the sources provided to begin your research. Additional research beyond the provided sources is required; use the databases at the bottom of this libguide to find additional research.

You need to research 10 cards total, 5 in FAVOR of your resolution and 5 AGAINST your resolution. This is the minimum and any more cards you create beyond this will only help prepare you for your debate.

All 5 sources must be cited in NoodleTools, and you will need a notecard per each source, so a minimum of 10 notecards.

RESEARCH REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 10 sources.
    • 5 from the point of view you are arguing.
    • 5 from the opposite point of view.
  • Cite each source in NoodleTools (ALL the sources you use.)
  • Create a Notecard for each source (10 sources = 10 notecards)
  • Each notecard will need...
    • Title: Title it the title of the source you are using
    • Linked source: Link the source you are using to compete this notecard. (You have to have added this source to NoodleTool first.)
    • Direct Quotation: Copy and paste important information from the source. Look for quotes (sentences) that help support your argument or point of view. (For the source on the opposite point of view, you are looking for a quote that supports that point of view.)
    • Paraphrase or Summary: summarize into your own words the information from the direct quote section of the notecard.
    • My Ideas: Explain in your own words with original thinking here. How does this support your argument? Explain the quote in your own words. Include whether it applies to ethos, pathos, or logos.
