Dystopian Lit Circle Book Exploration - ELA9: Research

Assignment Guidelines

You will write a 4 paragraph paper connecting your novel to a real world event. You will conduct research to find sources that support the connection you've made.

  • Your first body paragraph will connect your book to the real world event you choose.
  • Your second body paragraph will connect one of your classroom resources to the real world event you choose.

Library Schedule:

  • Day 1, 3/31 & 4/1: Introduce project; create NoodleTools project and share with teacher; enter book into NT; begin looking at database sources
  • Day 2, 4/2 & 4/3: Continue looking at database sources / enter source into NoodleTools; introduce notecards
  • Day 3, 4/4: Begin looking at classroom resources; continue working on notecards
  • Day 4, 4/7: Decide which book quotes support real world connection; finish notecards
  • Day 5, 4/9 & 4/10: Continue/finish notecards

For all classes: Notecards should be done by end of day on Friday, 4/11.

  • 4 notecards total:
    • 1 for database source
    • 1 for class resource
    • 2 for book
      • You will find quotes from your book that support the connection you've made to the real world.
      • Find two quotes from your book: one quote per notecard.

NoodleTools

  Log in to Noodletools using Classlink.

If you haven't logged in to Noodletools yet this year, you need to add it to your Classlink:

  1. Click + at the top of Classlink.
  2. Search the app library for Noodletools.
  3. Click "Add."
  4. Now you can access NoodleTools through Classlink.

Make sure your project is shared with your ELA teacher. Ask a librarian if you need help.

Notecard Instructions

Research

You must use a minimum of 3 sources for your research/paper:

  • Your book
  • 1 database article
  • 1 source from class

Remember:

  • A database article comes from one of the databases listed below.
  • Remember to get your source citation into NoodleTools for every source of info you use!
  • Have questions? Ask a librarian!

Classroom Resources Citations

NoodleTools

  • You must use NoodleTools to compile your ALL of your sources and ultimately create your Works Cited.
  • The project must also be shared with the librarians and your teacher. (Don't worry - we will go through all of this in class!)
