How do humans impact the world? Can we make a difference?

One way to make a difference is to inform others. The world needs your help. We live in a world where people are willing to help, but some are unaware of the world around them. Choose a global issue topic, and write an informative essay that brings awareness to the global issue.

Overview: You will research one of the topics on this page, and then write an informative essay about your topic. Your goal with you paper is to inform others and raise awareness on a current global issue. Before you can do that, you need to research your topic! 

Guiding Questions:

  • How do I write an informative text that conveys the central ideas and uses relevant information?
  • What is the purpose of citing evidence?
  • What are the steps of the writing process?
  • How can I support my conclusions with textual evidence?

Objectives:

  • Students will write relevant informational text.
  • Students will demonstrate how to cite evidence from a text.

Research

Directions: Choose one of the topics on this page to research and write an informative essay on. You are required to use 3 sources. one of the provided articles, one provided video, and you are required to find a second article on your own. As you research, you will be taking notes on NoodleTools. You need to create 3 notecards. Each notecard will have the direct quotes (2) you plan to use for your body paragraph in the Quote section. Skip the paraphrase section. In the "my ideas" section you will further explain how the quote on this notecard supports your idea; this is the bottom bun of your Hamburger quote!

NoodleTools Research Requirements:

  • 3 cited sources.
  • 3 notecards. (1 per each body paragraph)
  • 2 direct quotes on each notecard. (These will be the direct quotes in your body paragraph)
  • The "My Ideas" section of each notecard should be the bottom of your hamburger quote! This section is your own original thinking where you explain how these quotes support your idea and why it is important!
