My Name: is Kelly

Lead: What kind of music do you like to listen to? Have you ever wondered how one piece of music can influence another? Today we're going to take a musical journey through the ages as we explore how music of the past affects the music of today.

5 Talking Points:

Theme of lost love and regret runs through music history.

1. Song Shenandoah about fur trade and lost love. A fur trader remembers his love, and Iriquois woman, who he leaves behind..(may play the beginning at this point)

2. Johnny has gone as a soldier boy from the American Civil War. This song tells the story of love lost in the face of war...(I will play part of the song)

3. One of the most famous songs is Yesterday recorded in 1965 by the Beatles. This song was written when...(would play the why she had to go part)

4. Today one of most famous songs is Adele's Hello. Adele quote:  "I felt all of us were moving on, and it's not about an ex-relationship, a love relationship, it's about my relationship with everyone that I love. It's not that we have fallen out, we've all got our lives going on and I needed to write that song so they would all hear it, because I'm not in touch with them." (play hello from the other side part)

5. Songs are all power ballads,  written in storytelling format and have a slow melody where each verse has same refrain. Tends to have minor chords (at this point I may compare actual parts of songs to show what I'm talking about)

Conclusion, also called the Outro: Thank for listening to today's podcast. Next week we explore the choral roots of the acapella group Pentatonix.

What is a Podcast?

A podcast is a lot like a radio show. It has episodes, like a TV show would have, and it’s usually in audio-only format, although Ted Talks would be an example of a video podcast. Podcasts are usually around a topic such as music, books, interviews, science, etc.

Podcasts serve different purposes too. Some podcasts are trying to make you laugh, some are very suspenseful, and some are created to inform. Your podcast will be informational.

Things to think about when creating a Podcast

Catchy and clever introduction. Provides relevant information and establishes a clear purpose engaging the listener immediately.

Creativity and original content make the podcast interesting.

Accurate information from research is included.

Concepts are clear and don't ramble.

Keep on topic, which is how music from past influences or compares to today.

Has short conclusion that leaves listener with a thought, something to look forward to, resources, etc.
