Evaluating Sites: CRAAP: Home

Websites are created by the minute without an editing process or review.  A study conducted by Stanford found that 25% of high school students could not identify an accurate news story, photograph, or video. It isn't always easy to determine the accuracy of a website for any age group. Did you know now that there is a career in fact-checking? As a Fact-Checker, an individual can work for news organizations, website publishers, and non-profit groups.

You can be your own fact-checker by using some of the tools listed below.

Additional Tips

Lateral Reading

Take a headline and Google it.  What info pops up? Who refers to it?

Author Look Up

Not finding the author or owner? Conduct a domain search. Click here.

Organization or Company

Not sure about the organization or business providing information? Look up the organization in Wikipedia (yes, you heard that right).  Wikipedia will provide a quick overview that will help you determine potential bias.
