We’re missing sources!
As you can see, YOU WILL be finding the sources that we will use for the synthesis essay. In your group of three, you will find SIX sources that include a mixture of sources that support the claim, oppose the claim, and inform about the topic. Therefore, you need to find opinion essays, editorials, newspaper articles, reports, and journal articles. (You should not have all opinion pieces in your collection of six.) Since the AP test will also incorporate at least one VISUAL source, do your best to find one. (Because this may prove difficult, a visual source is not required.)
Eventually Mr. Ostroski will pick the SIX best sources for the class to use for the synthesis essay. In order for all students to read six sources during a 55 minute time limit you must use excerpts no longer than ONE PAGE for each article.

Topic: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn has been a staple in American English classrooms for generations. Throughout the years, however, controversy has accompanied the novel, and it has been challenged, even banned for student use. Critics have argued that the novel is too profane, vulgar, or irrelevant to be taught in modern American classrooms, while supports advocate that it is a vital contribution to American Literature.
Your task: Read the following sources carefully. Then, in an essay that synthesizes at least three of the sources, take a position that supports, denies, or qualifies the claim that The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn should no longer be taught in the modern American English classroom.
