What is a Digital Escape Room?

 

The bell hasn't rung, but the library doors are locked! Your backpack buzzes with a cryptic note: "Solve the riddles, unlock the codes, and escape before detention! The fate of your  freedom hangs in the balance!" Are you ready for the ultimate digital challenge?

Welcome, intrepid explorers, to the Digital Escape Room!

Your Mission: You've stumbled upon a hidden portal in the school's library. Your curiosity has landed you in a mysterious digital world, and the only way back is to solve a series of brain-bending puzzles and unlock the portal before time runs out!

How to Play:

  1. Gather your team: Find out what team you are on remember, "Teamwork makes the dream work!"
  2. Receive your folder:  The folder has any paper items you will need.  
  3. Complete each task in order: Use the links to answer the questions.  
  4. Decipher the Puzzles: Each puzzle will lead you to a code or key. Think outside the box, use logic and creativity, and don't be afraid to ask your teammates for help!
  5. Record answers on your sheet: Each puzzle will lead you to a code or key. Think outside the box, use logic and creativity, and don't be afraid to ask your teammates for help!
  6. Have your code checked: Show the teacher or Mrs. Norton the answers for each task before going to the next task.
  7. Turn in each task folder before getting the next one: Mrs. Norton will let you know where to do this.
  8. Escape before anyone else: Good Luck!

Remember:

  • Time is ticking! You have the class period to escape. Keep track of the clock on the screen.
  • Think critically and creatively! No puzzle is impossible, but they might require a little lateral thinking.
  • Work together! Share your ideas and brainstorm solutions as a team.
  • Have fun! This is an adventure, so enjoy the challenge and celebrate your successes!

Task 1

Our primary technology tool here at school is our chromebook computer.  Read about the history of computer in this article and answer the five questions to figure out the clue.  Record the answers on the answersheet and show teacher when finished.  You must have permission to go to the next task.  Good luck!

Task 4

Picture a giant digital playground where you can share your awesome moments, connect with friends near and far, and discover cool communities that share your passions. That's the world of social media! It's like a vibrant town square where you can post pics, chat with peeps, and even be a star if you've got talent to show. But remember, just like any playground, it's important to play safe and be responsible to make sure your social media experience is fun and awesome!

Read this article about Social Media to answer the multiple choice questions.  Record the answers on the answer sheet and have it checked before going to Task 5.  You can do this!

Task 7

Uh oh! Not all news online is true, even if it sounds exciting. Fake news is made-up stories disguised as real news, trying to trick you. It can be about anything, from funny animal pictures to serious events. Be a super sleuth! Learn how to spot fake news before it fools you!

Task 2

Imagine a digital detective, a code whisperer, a master of unlocking the secrets hidden within the glowing screens. A computer hacker is all these things and more. They navigate the intricate pathways of computer systems, using their knowledge and skills to bypass security measures and uncover hidden information. Whether their motives are mischievous or noble, their actions can leave a lasting impact on the digital world.

Task 5

Ever see a pic online that seems too good to be true? Images can be powerful tools, but just like words, they can sometimes trick us. Media literacy helps you decode what you see, from funny memes to news photos, so you can be a super smart, image-savvy detective! ️‍Images also help tell the story on a website or an article.

It's your own mini-computer, a camera, a music player, a library, and even a portal to virtual worlds! The cell phone is more than just a phone – it's your window to a universe of endless possibilities.
